CALL TO
ACTION!
***I just
received a call from the Department of Education - great news! The meeting on
Wednesday is regarding the Auditor General's Report and NOT legislation!
This means
that we are not facing a rush to defend against a new Bill. The Auditor
General's report will be addressing homeschooling and the findings [something
about us] and the Department of Education. I still don't have any specific
information. This morning, Dr. Lowe was not at liberty to tell me anything but
at the end of the day, the Auditor General has released the information that he
addresses homeschooling in his report.
So, some of
the pressure is off for Wednesday. Any who are available to be at the
Department of Education Building for the announcement - that would be great -
let them know we are paying attention.
I do want to
commend everyone for their effective response to this situation. Even though it
has turned out not to be a legislative issue, our MLAs and the Department of
Education have received enough communication from us that I am now getting
phone calls from them! This is what we want - communication. You did it, you
stood up when you were called and homeschoolers across Nova Scotia mobilized to
address the issues. THANK YOU.
That said,
all homeschoolers are invited to the meeting at 1:30 with Dr. Lowe and the
press. At 2 pm, the statement will be made and at 2:15, the Auditor General's
Report will be posted to his website. Those at the release, perhaps we can
gather for a time afterward to discuss any implications of the findings. When I
have the report, I will post relevant information to the HEMS webpage and
encourage others to share the information as well.***
