Welcome to the Central Valley Homeschoolers blog. We've created this blog to help homeschoolers stay connected, and as a place to announce upcoming field trips or other activities. If you would like to host an event or organize an activity, we would love to hear from you. Feel free to email us and we'll be sure to post all events as they are brought to our attention. We will also be posting activities that might interest the homeschooling community. If you are aware of any events that you haven't seen mentioned here, please let us know and we'll be sure to post it. Keep us bookmarked us and check back often. Nov 2, 10:00-1:00 - Geocaching activity, meet at Stronach Park (a.k.a. the duck pond)  in Kingston  (Wear orange or another bright colour!)     [Maureen]

Nov 9, 9:30-11:30 - Informal gathering at Covenanters Church, 6185 Hwy #1, Cambridge; Icebreaker family-get-to-know-each-other Bingo; Identifying all homeschooling families on a map of Annapolis Valley; board games; outdoor sports (weather-permitting)     [Rose-venue, Jan-Bingo game, Ashley-map]

Nov 16, 9:30-11:30 - Craft session with the residents of “Heart of the Valley”, Middleton, bring pinecones and ? to make Christmas wreaths, parents need to fill out a Volunteer Confidentiality Form and have a Police Criminal Record Check done [Maureen] Possible connection with other seniors homes in the Valley?     [Laura/Rose]

Dec 7, 9:30-11:30 - Christmas card making, snacks, carolling practice @ New Beginnings Centre, Kingston (bring supplies to share, sample cards, NO GLITTER...)  [Jan to book venue]

Dec 14, 9:30-11:30 - Carolling at Heart of the Valley and possibly other places  [Maureen/Laura/Rose]

Dec 21, 9:30-11:30 - Make Christmas table arrangements for the Soup Kitchen, Kentville; bring bowl and styrofoam (Rose will bring a sample to Dec 6 meeting)     [Rose]

Jan 11 - Field trip to the Kingston detachment of the RCMP     [Maureen]

Jan 18 - Field trip to the Coldbrook Fish Hatchery     [Marie]

Jan 25, 9:30-11:30 - Sledding & hot chocolate at the MacInnis’ home, Nictaux  OR Skating on Woodville outdoor rink  OR  Skating at indoor rink (weather-dependent)

Feb 1, 9:30-11:30 - Presentation by Clean Annapolis River Project, venue TBA; check out http://www.annapolisriver.ca/     [Maureen]

Feb 22 - Ski Martock trip     [Rose]

Sat, May 4, 10-2 - Public Exhibition to display a variety of work done by our families this year.  Invite Regional Education Officer, local school boards, MLAs...; potential venue:  Berwick Town Hall gym (for displays) and meeting room (for refreshments)     [Brenda to look into venue rental and contact Regional Education Officer]

To increase awareness of this support group, Brenda will make up a poster before the next meeting for displaying at local libraries, GMFRC, towns...     

Our Friday events could also be posted on www.ValleyFamilyFun.ca .    

When posting an event on Facebook, please also remember to email Raquel to have it included on the Greenwood Area Homeschoolers blog (vanderploegr@eastlink.ca ) for those homeschoolers who are not on Facebook; please email Raquel the wording for the post, exactly as you’d like it – In appreciation to Raquel for managing the blog, we’ll make her life easier by just having her copy and paste each blog entry.  Thank you!

Monthly parent meetings will be held on the first Thursday of each month from 7-9pm, alternating between east and west Valley homes.
