WELCOME!

Welcome to the Central Valley Homeschoolers blog. We've created this blog to help homeschoolers stay connected, and as a place to announce upcoming field trips or other activities. If you would like to host an event or organize an activity, we would love to hear from you. Feel free to email us and we'll be sure to post all events as they are brought to our attention. We will also be posting activities that might interest the homeschooling community. If you are aware of any events that you haven't seen mentioned here, please let us know and we'll be sure to post it. Keep us bookmarked us and check back often. All our events are also listed on Facebook in the Annapolis Valley Homeschoolers group. Comments and suggestions are always welcome!

FAQs – 2nd Annual HomeSchool Expo / Open House (26 April 2014)

Please ensure you sign up with Brenda Nyenhuis as soon as possible.  Need to know:  who’s participating, how much space you need (full table, ½ table, etc.), whether you need an electrical outlet or not, and if your child(ren) will be demonstrating anything on stage.  Demonstrations could be anything from a musical performance or poetry recitation to a prepared speech or science experiment or debate or game show or historic re-enactment or spelling bee or ?

Would your child(ren) be interested in selling anything they’ve made in an “entrepreneurial section” at the Expo (this plan is still tentative) ?

Please pass the $7/family to Brenda beforehand if possible, or when you arrive.

Please spread the word to other homeschoolers, as well as to your neighbours, family, friends, and any interested party.  Government representatives have been invited, as well as our Department of Education representatives.  The college already has our event advertised on their sign at the front of NSCC.

For those at the eastern end of the Valley, be assured that next year the Expo will be held at the NSCC Kingstec campus.  The plan is to alternate between Middleton and Kentville each year, always the last Saturday of April between 11 and 2.

Enter by the back entrance of the college.

Please bring a loaf of sandwiches and 3 dozen cookies or squares.

Arrive to setup your table between 9:00 and 10:30.  Any able to arrive as early as 9:00 will be received with open arms to help set up tables, chairs, tablecloths, etc.   If you’re doing a demo, this is a good time to do a sound check.  At this time also drop off your used curriculum for the sale.

Does anybody have any insulated carafes we could borrow to serve coffee and tea?

Still looking for a pair of volunteers to coordinate the refreshments.  This involves keeping the refreshment tables neat and well-supplied with extra juice, coffee cream, sandwiches and fruit/veggies will be in the fridge in the nearby staff lounge; also making coffee and tea to refill the carafes.

Also looking for a “master of ceremonies” to announce the demonstrations on the hour.

See below for the planned layout for the Expo.
