WELCOME!

Welcome to the Central Valley Homeschoolers blog. We've created this blog to help homeschoolers stay connected, and as a place to announce upcoming field trips or other activities. If you would like to host an event or organize an activity, we would love to hear from you. Feel free to email us and we'll be sure to post all events as they are brought to our attention. We will also be posting activities that might interest the homeschooling community. If you are aware of any events that you haven't seen mentioned here, please let us know and we'll be sure to post it. Keep us bookmarked us and check back often. All our events are also listed on Facebook in the Annapolis Valley Homeschoolers group. Comments and suggestions are always welcome!

Results from Meet & Greet Planning Session!

RESULTS OF PLANNING SESSION 7 SEPT 2012

We had a very productive meeting last night.  Thanks to all those who took the time to be involved and help make fun things happen for us and our kids.  We decided on the following:
-       Weekly get-togethers (without age restrictions) Friday mornings 9:30-11:30
-     1st Friday of the month = hands-on activity
-     2nd Friday of the month = casual/informal time at someone’s home or a community hall
-     3rd Friday of the month = field trip
-     4th Friday of the month = larger “Active Living” event (swimming, skating, hiking, gym...)

-       Monthly parent meetings
-     first Thursday evening of the month 7:00-9:00
-     alternating between Berwick/Coldbrook area and Kingston/Greenwood area

-       Upcoming events:
Ø Friday, Sept 14 @ Rose Hogeterp’s home (2481 Black Rock Road, Waterville)
Come prepared to swim in their heated pool and play outdoors (or indoors, depending on the weather)

Ø Friday, September 21 @ the new playground at 14 Wing Greenwood (next to Community Centre/Bowling Alley, on Church Street)
Come bring your field trip ideas, as well as soccer balls, frisbees, etc.

Ø Friday, September 28 @ Evans’ Family Farm Market Corn Maze, Wilmot (www.evansfamilyfarmmarket.com)
Brenda Nyenhuis will organize this event.  More details to follow.

Ø Friday, October 5 @ Corinna Szymaniak’s home (1743 Woodville Road, Woodville)
This will be a hands-on Thanksgiving craft involving natural materials found outdoors (details to follow); there will also be an opportunity to see some farm animals.

For each event, an RSVP would be appreciated by the host/planner of the activity.  Some events will require money paid in advance.  Please keep your eye on the “Annapolis Valley Home Schoolers” Facebook page as well as the Greenwood Area Homeschoolers’ blog (www.gahomeschoolers.blogspot.com), and tell your friends.  Events are open to all interested homeschoolers.

Other potential activities discussed at the meeting:  free outdoor skating on the Duck Pond in Kingston or behind the Woodville Fire Dept, rental of the Trojan Sports Centre in Bridgetown, craft activities (jewellery by Jennifer, leather crafts by Jacob, finger knitting on a hula hoop by Laura, ...), maple syrup field trip, Ross Farm Christmas Event, equestrian vaulting by Corinna, swimming, skating, sledding, canoe trip @ Cloud Lake, board games, music jam session, Variety Show, picnic @ Fort Anne, horseback riding, campfire, zoo, bowling, curling, shore cleanup...

REMINDER:   Feel free to plan an event geared to a certain Friday of the month (hands-on, casual social, field trip, or Active Living event) by posting details on the FB page or by emailing
Raquel @ vanderploegr48@gmail.com for publishing on the blog.  I’m sure we all look forward to seeing each other more regularly and meeting new friends!  Thank you.
